Originally from Minnesota, Nelson moved to New Orleans in 2010 to attend an artist residency, and henceforth has not been able to tear herself away from this vibrant, compelling city. She is a Professor of Practice in Painting and Drawing at Tulane University, is represented by Cole Pratt Gallery in uptown New Orleans, and is a founding member of Staple Goods Gallery and Collective in the St Claude Arts District. Her abstract oil paintings frequently reference landscapes and buildings and seek to express tensions of privilege and community, conversation and division.
