“My practice is a mixture of drawing and three-dimensional installation that also blurs the boundaries of gardening, science experiment, material experiment, sculpture, recycling, indoors and out. I find inspiration from my immediate surroundings—the thresholds of the city where cement, weeds, and litter intermingle—and often get ideas while biking to the studio.”

Hannah Chalew is an artist from New Orleans. Her artwork explores the relationship between nature and culture as we slide into the collective uncertainty of life in the age of global warming. She received her MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2016, then returned to New Orleans to base her studio practice there. Chalew has had recent solo exhibitions at Popps Packing, Hamtramck, MI; Fayetteville Underground, Fayetteville, AR; and Jonathan Ferrara Gallery, New Orleans. Her work has been included in group exhibitions at Contemporary Arts Center, Antenna Gallery, and Ogden Museum of Southern Art, all in New Orleans; Cranbrook Art Museum, Bloomfield Hills, MI; Dieu Donné, New York; Asheville Museum of Art, Asheville, NC; Acadiana Center for the Arts, Lafayette, LA; and other venues. Her work is held in the collections of the City of New Orleans and the Ogden Museum of Southern Art.
