Monica Zeringue is an artist living and working in New Orleans, where she was born in 1964. Her graphite drawings exploring identity have been widely exhibited. These primarily involved the self-portrait, and often incorporated embroidery and hand-sewn beads. Her new work abandons the self-portrait, but continues to investigate her own experiences with transition, growth, and stagnancy. She is working in acrylic with collaged and embroidered elements, allowing color and texture equal footing with imagery. This new work is still in transition, as she searches for a new vocabulary to express a broader interest in finding her connection with the universe.

Ms. Zeringue received her Masters of Fine Arts from the University of New Orleans in 2006, and her BA in 1993. She is a 2014 recipient of the Joan Mitchell Foundation’s Painters and Sculptors Grant, and in 1999, was awarded the Prix de l'Acadamie de Paris, Societe Internationale des Beaux-Arts. She had exhibited her work at the Meadows Museum of Art, Contemporary Arts Center, and the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art with a solo exhibition, as well as numerous gallery solo exhibitions in New Orleans since 1999. Her drawings and paintings have been included in group exhibitions throughout the United States. Ms. Zeringue's work in included in the public collections, including the New Orleans Museum of Art, The Diane and Sandy Besser collection, Frederick R Weisman Art Foundation Collection, Los Angeles, CA, the Alexandria Museum of Art, Alexandria, LA, and the Arts Council of New Orleans. She has been represented by Galerie Simonne Stern and Heriard-Cimino Gallery. She has been with Jonathan Ferrara Gallery in New Orleans since 2013, where she has had two solo shows. The gallery also includes her work in gallery booths at art fairs throughout the United States and Europe.
